Good morning, Dear Ones,

In getting a fresh start after committing to faithfully obeying God’s teaching found in the Scriptures, we must encounter and respect God’s wisdom.  PR 2: 6, “For the Lord gives wisdom, from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.”  There are no lies in the Scriptures.  Knowledge, you’ll remember, is data. Understanding is the ability to see the relationships between data.  And wisdom is the ability to apply what is learned to one’s life or the life of another.  A few weeks ago, the Holy Spirit had me writing about humility.  This trait is essential to understanding one’s need to look to God for wisdom.  JAS 1: 5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, Who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”  God doesn’t hold back His wisdom, and we mustn’t hold back our genuine humility.

One thing that I’ve experienced in my faith life is that following God’s teaching saves people a lot of trouble.  Those who lack the ethics to wait to have sexual relations until there is commitment to his partner run the risk of unwanted pregnancies, for example.  Those who commit first, then engage in sexual intercourse have children that are welcomed into the family, for which they are prepared financially and emotionally.  Young people who take the time to get to know each other, mature, and get established in their careers, are more likely to be good parents.  Imagine what our society might be like if everyone took this latter route to parenthood.

Where does wisdom begin for people?  PS 111: 10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, all whose who practice it have good understanding.  His praise endures forever!”  They will make this wonderful discovery:  JAS 3: 17, “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.”  That shows us God doesn’t play psychological games the way some people do.  Those criteria can feel difficult for people to follow but following them is always in one’s best long-term interests.  God is never cruel.  He takes no pleasure in watching His human creation suffering.

The evil one has lots of tools he uses to make us miserable.  One of his favorites is pride.  It can take the form of refusal to seek God’s help, or refusal to follow God’s wisdom when it is given.  PR 11: 2, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.”  I’m sure that Jeffrey Epstein was at one time full of pride in the way he was making a living and the famous people that were his clients.  When we see what happened to him, one must realize the truth of how destructive his pride was.  We all know that fools think they are the smartest people in the room.  PR 29: 11 shows us what a wise person does.  “A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.”

Because of the limitations of mankind’s perspective, the wise person will recognize the amazing wisdom our Lord has at his beck and call.  RO 11: 33, “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and how inscrutable His ways!  IS 55: 8-9 [God speaking], “’For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,’ declares the Lord.  ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”  It’s as if God’s thoughts were infinity and ours were much smaller numbers.  This doesn’t mean that God would hold back if we were to ask Him about something.

God’s wisdom extends to knowing exactly the right time and way to release answers to some questions.  If we find ourselves at a crossroads, God knows the right time and way to answer our questions asked.  He wants to do the greatest good for the greatest numbers at all times.  COL 4: 5-6, “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.  Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”  Regarding the word of God in its fullness, we learn more about this in COL 1: 26-27.  The mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people.   To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”  COL 2: 2-3, “My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart ad united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in Whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

PRAYER: O Lord, we kneel before Your mighty throne, asking for as much wisdom as we can take in.  This request is so that we can act as Micah directs, in MICAH 6: 8, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”  There are good reasons for young people to learn from those who have long life’s experience, and even better reasons for all people to seek Your wisdom.  You are to be loved, praised, given our loyalty, thanked and honored forever and ever, in the holy/mighty name of Jesus Christ.  Amen.

NEXT WEEK: The Holy Spirit has a huge lesson to teach us from LK 7: 36-50.  In it we will see God’s wisdom and fairness at work.  This and other issues that come up as God’s wisdom is practiced gives us a look at how different His perspective is from that of the average human being.  Remember MT 7: 24 [Christ speaking], “Everyone then who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on a Rock.” How blessed we are to have a God with infinite wisdom!  Praise and thanksgiving be to Him!

Grace be with you Always,
